The most common term/form of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease.  Dementia is a term for the decline in brain function in older adults. 

 

Research has proven that with any incremental increase in blood sugar, there is an increased risk of dementia. 

 

Another way of saying it, is that the higher your blood sugar is, the higher your risk of Alzheimer’s/Dementia. 

 

Sugary sodas lead to very fast spikes in blood sugar.

It seems to only make sense then that these sodas would be a direct link to a higher risk of dementia. 

 

Studies done on mice have proven that large doses of sugary drinks can unpair decision making capabilities, as well as memory. 

 

 

 

2. Soda consumption dramatically increases your risk of Gout.

 

 

Gout definition:  A disease in which defective metabolism of uric acid causes arthritis, especially in the smaller bones of the feet, deposition of chalkstone, and episodes of acute pain. 

 

Wow…none of that sounds appealing to me at all..I am sooo glad I don’t drink this shit. 

 

Gout occurs when the high levels of uric acid become crystalized.  

The main carbohydrate to increase uric acid levels is fructose. And soda’s are full of fructose. 

 

Many large studies of observation have determined very strong links between sugary soda’s and the Gout. 

 

 

 

 

3. Your risk of cancer is greatly increased by consuming soda. 

 

Cancer is a very popular disease trending with the overweight Americans who continue to choose poor nutrition daily. 

 

Cancer has joined the ranks of other diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. 

 

A study conducted with over 60,000 adults discovered that those who drank 2 or more sugary drinks (soda’s) per week were 87% more likely to develop pancreatic cancer tan those that did not consume soda. Holy shit!…87%!..That is very good odds…If you drink soda, please stop…

 

Another study found that postmenopausal who drank a lot of sodas may also be at greater risk of endometrial cancer, the cancer of the inner lining of the uterus. 

 

Another study found that sugary soda intake is linked to the reoccurrence of cancer and to the death of colorectal cancer. 

 

 

4. The acids and sugar in soda’s wreck your dental health. 

 

It is a well known fact that sugary soda are very bad for your dental health. 

 

The carbonic acid and phosphoric acid (among other acids) create a highly acidic environment in your mouth, which encourages tooth decay. 

Mix these acids with the sugar levels found in these bullshit soda’s…and your teeth don’t stand a chance. 

 

The sugar provides easily digestible energy for the bad bacteria in your mouth. Combine this with the acids, and this wrecks your mouth and teeth over time. 

 

5. Heart disease risk is greatly increases in those that consume sugary drinks.

 

There have been many human studies that support a strong association between sugar consumption and and heart disease risk in all populations. 

 

Also established in these studies was that sugar-sweetened drinks increase risk factors for heart disease, including high blood sugar, blood triglycerides, and small dense LDL particles. 

 

One 20 year study in 40,000 men found that those who drank 1 sugary drink per day had a 20% higher risk of having, or dying from, a heart attack, compared to men who barely consumed sugary drinks. 

 

 

6. Sugar is sodas and energy drinks cause leptin resistance. 

 

Leptin definition: A protein produced by fat cells that is a hormone acting mainly in the regulation of appetite and fat storage. 

 

Essentially leptin regulates the number of calories you eat and burn.

 

Being resistant to this hormone’s effects, which is referred to as being leptin resistant, is now believed to be amidst the top drivers of fat gain in humans. 

 

Research in animals has also linked fructose consumption to leptin resistance. 

But when the animals were switched back to a sugar free diet, the leptin resistance disappears. Meaning its never to late to stop drinking this icky sugary stuff.

Sugary sodas contain no essential vitamins, no essential nutrients, no fiber, and no minerals. 

 

Sugary sodas add nothing to your nutrition except super high amounts of sugar, and “empty” or unnecessary calories. 

 

 

9. Sodas and energy drinks can be a factor in insulin resistance ( a key player in Metabolic Syndrome) because of they high sugar levels. 

 

The hormone glucose drives insulin to your cells.

 

But when you drink sugary soda, your cells become less sensitive or resistant to the effects of insulin. 

 

When this happens, your pancreas must make even more insulin to remove the glucose in your bloodstream, so insulin levels in your blood spike.

High sugar consumption has always been associated with weight gain. 

 

To be more specific, fructose has been linked to a significant increase in the dangerous fat around your belly and organs. This fat is known as visceral fat, and is also referred to as belly fat. 

 

Excessive belly fat is tied to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. 

 

In a ten week study, 32 healthy people consumed beverages sweetened with either fructose or or glucose. 

 

Those who consumed glucose had an increase in skin fat, which is not linked to metabolic disease, while those who consumed fructose saw their belly fat significantly increase. 

 

High consumption of fructose (which sodas are full of) makes you accumulate belly fat, a dangerous type of fat linked to metabolic disease. (healthline)

 

 

11. Why sodas and energy drinks do not fill you up, and are directly linked to weight gain. 

 

Fructose does not lower the hunger hormone ghrelin or stimulate fullness in the same way as glucose, the sugar that forms when you digest starchy foods. 

 

Meaning when you consume sugary icky sodas it is usually on top of your total calorie intake-because sugary drinks don’t make you feel full. 

 

Studies show that people who drink sugar sweetened beverages consistently gain more weight than people who don’t. 

 

It is a fact that sugary drinks are among the most fattening aspects of the modern diet. 

 

 

12. How diet sodas are even worse for you than their non-diet counter part. 

 

 

Your gut has a balance of “good” and “bad” bacteria, or good gut buddies, and bad gut buddies. 

 

According to one study, the artificial sweeteners that are in diet sodas may alter the type and function of the bacteria in your gut biome. 

 

Diet soda drinkers may be more likely to experience high blood pressure compared to those that don’t drink soda, according to a study out of brazil. 

 

According to the national kidney foundation, diet soda could be bad news for your kidneys. 

 

One study determined that women who drank several diet sodas a day showed a significant decline in kidney function. 

 

 

As you can see…there is nothing good about soda…

 

And especially diet soda…gross…

 

 

So if you are currently drinking soda (alot of people are) all you have to do is start weaning yourself off.

 

Count how many sodas you drink in a day.

 

Lets say you consume 6 per day.

 

So starting tomorrow only have five per day, for one week. 

 

And then the next week have for per day.

 

The next week three…you see where I’m going with this.

 

 

And there is a great chance if you drink soda you also consume processed foods, and mega processed fast food…It happens.

 

But just know all of this is pure shit, and it is taking decades off of your life, while making your quality of life while you are here slow and heavy.

 

You can apply the above process to eating processed and super processed food as well. 

Cut back day to day, week to week. Add in something new every week. 

 

A green smoothie for breakfast for example after you phased out the Doritos and corn dog you were eating.

 

You will see as you slowly replace the bullshit fake foods you are currently eating, with nutrient, vitamin packed, super yummy food your quality of life will improve, and you will live long enough to see your kids graduate high school. And then your grand kids graduate. 

 

You can live as long as you want, if you make daily, consistent healthy decisions.

 

Start slow, don’t be overwhelmed.
