Magnesium...Everything You Don't Know You Are Missing

Magnesium... the wonderful super mineral that no one thinks about...until now...:)

The definition of Magnesium: A mineral that is important for normal bone structure in the body.

This is a true statement, magnesium is important to more than just bones though... Lets find out why... Magnesium plays a role in over 300 enzyme reactions in the human body.

Some of the functions magnesium helps with are muscle and nerve function, regulating blood pressure, and supporting the immune system.

Many people do not get enough magnesium in their diet, it is hard to see symptoms in an other wise “healthy” person though.

The benefits of magnesium:

1. Bone health Most of the attention for bone health refers to vitamin C (which has its role) , but magnesium is also essential for bone health.

2.Cardiovascular disease: Magnesium plays an important role in muscle health, including the heart.

3. Diabetes: Magnesium plays an important role in glucose control and insulin metabolism. This is why research found that an individual with nutrition high in magnesium had a lower risk of type 2 diabetes.

4. Anxiety: Low magnesium may have links to higher levels of anxiety. This is due to the hypothalmic- pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which is set of three glands, these glands control a persons reaction to stress.

4. Headaches (migraines): A magnesium deficiency can affect neurotransmitters and restrict blood vessel constriction. These factors can lead to migraines.

Dietary magnesium sources:

Organic almonds (1 ounce) 80mg

Organic spinach (1/2 cup) 78mg Cooked organic black beans (cook in a pressure cooker) (1/2 cup) 60mg

Organic avocado (1 cup) 44mg

Deficient in Magnesium?...Symptoms and causes...

If someone consumes a lot of alcohol, they are deficient in magnesium.

Symptoms include:

Weakness or fatigue Nausea, vomiting Loss of appetite

Major symptoms are:

Changes in heart rhythm

Personality changes

Seizures

Tingling

Numbness

Muscle cramps

Can you get too much magnesium?

It is highly unlikely that you will overdose on magnesium through dietary sources (the food you eat).

Your body eliminates what magnesium you don’t use in your urine.

That being said if and when you do supplement your magnesium intake, too much magnesium will cause gastrointestinal problems, that include cramping, nausea, and diarrhea.

Super large doses can cause urine retention, low blood pressure, kidney problems, nausea, vomiting, loss of central nervous system control. And in extreme cases death.

What Magnesium supplement company should I choose?...

As with every supplement you take do adequate research to make sure you are getting what you pay for.

Avoid big box stores for vitamins, supplements, etc (Walmart, Costco, Sams club, etc). These are mostly mass produced with non-organic (icky) ingredients.

They are totally not sustainable. Your cells deserve natural, pure magnesium :)

(You should always consult your physician if you have any medical questions before starting a supplement plan.) Legal disclaimer :)

The brand I supplement with is from Double wood supplements, I will include an amazon link below.

Double wood Magnesium L-Threonate

The suggested serving is 2000mg, which is 4 capsules. You will want to work yourself up to this amount, just as I had too. Start with one capsule at bed time (the best time to take magnesium) for a few days. See how your body is feeling with this dosage.

Then add in another capsule for a couple days, and so fourth until you reach the full 4 capsule 2000mg dosage. It took me a full three weeks to reach full dosage, so be patient and listen to your body.

I noticed a huge change after reaching the full dose. I now wake up every morning rested, relaxed and ready to accomplish my day.

I know you will feel better once you get your magnesium dialed in. Remember to listen to your body, not what others say you “need”. The supplement industry is a corporate financial monster, not worried about your health. And pharmaceutical companies only make money when you are “sick” and taking their un-healthy pills.

Your body will tell you you what you need. No hurries or worries...:) Here”s to your health... Cheers!
