3 Small Healthy Things You Can Do Right Now To Change Your Life

 

Hello! Thank you for your interest in changing your life for the better! In this blog post we will discussing three small things you can slowly change in your life that will lead to a big impact, to a healthier you. 

 

First a little background on myself, so you can see where I’m coming from. I was born and raised in the countryside farmland of Indiana. It was very flat and quiet :)

I grew up with a lot of Love in our family household, but also with a lot of carbohydrates and processed food. I carried these nutritional traits into my twenties where I picked up drinking alcohol to numb myself as I entered a negative relationship.

I then carried all of the above into my thirties where I added overworking and stress to the equation.

My body was screaming at me that something was going to give and either I could make the choice or it would. One morning in my mid thirties I woke up after a two week binder of not eating very much, missing work, and staying drunk the whole time.

I knew a decision was going to be made that day by my body or me, and I wasn’t ready to take an exit yet.

I decided that day to dedicate the rest of my life to being naturally healthy utilizing all holistic and organic avenues I could find. Mentally, physically, emotionally, and energetically. That was many years ago and I have found myself and my health and now feel indebted to help others find their way to on their journey. 

I have trained and studied in personal training, life coaching, nutrition, yoga and meditation. I am very grateful to have obtained many certifications that help me everyday. Holy cow…enough about me already…It’s your time to change your life! :)

 

The first step we will address is nutrition:

I know some of you just rolled your eyes thinking Im only going to tell you to eat more kale and less chicken wings…well I guess I could but a statement going in one ear and out the other does not seem to help in any way.

There are roots to everything we do and until you unpack down to that root you will never really change anything in your life. Nutrition is no different but only in one way, and it is still the root of the problem that you have to figure out. This difference is your bad gut buddies in your microbiome.

They are the ones sending signals to your brain for the fast food, the processed food, the sugar, the soda, the potato chips, etc. They love junk food and will send the signal you are almost starving until they get what they want. 

So you just have to beat them at there own game and slowly ween yourself off of the processed and fast food. The soda, the sugar, etc. Your bad gut buddies lead to disease and total bad health, so even if it takes a while to taper off of the not so good food, it is soooo worth it long term.

You will have a better quality of life for you and your family. 

Try to eat a little cleaner everyday, to phase out one meal of the day of fast food and have some grass fed beef cheeseburgers with no bun and leafy greens, etc. Your end goal is to eat all clean food, drink all clean water, and breathe all clean air, don’t rush…you will get there.

Remember slowly tapering down from anything: soda, sugar, dirty food, being sedentary, etc makes it more sustainable and will more likely become lifestyle and habit forming. Basically no hurries or worries…:)

Our second topic of change is stress:

Stress is a total killer..Im not going to sugar coat stress at all. Let’s look at the ways your body responds to stress. 

Social withdraw

Drug/ alcohol/tobacco use/abuse

Angry outbursts

Overeating/under-eating

Sadness/depression

Irritability/anger

Lack of motivation or focus

Anxiety

Sleep disturbance/problems 

Upset stomach

Change in sex drive

Fatigue

Muscle tension/pain

Headache

Holy cow right! That is a whole lot of negative icky all from not dealing with stress! Let’s find some of the roots of how stress could have these effects. 

The above nutrition section of this post also comes into play when dealing with the root of stress for sure. If your bad gut buddies are hungry for some processed food and pissed off that you are giving it to them right now they are going to again send up the starving flag triggering fight or flight for your whole body.

Being in fight or flight immediately puts you on the defensive and is not sustainable day in and day out. You become moody and your body is literally slowly wearing itself out. No fun no fun. 

Once you can replace your bad gut buddies with good gut buddies (remember you can phase them out). You can start to deal with the stress in your life. Better nutrition will give you the energy to move more.

Moving more leads to a better metabolism and working out…which leads to more confidence and a complete lifestyle change! I know it doesn’t happen over night (remember I’ve been there too) but by simply putting one foot in front of the other, and making good decisions consistently, I have totally transformed my way of life for the better.

The third topic of change is believing in yourself:

You may think “I believe in myself, don’t be silly”…but do you really? I thought I believed in myself too..until I realized I didn’t. Lets do some unpacking…

When you truly believe in yourself it does not matter what anyone else thinks of you, how any one else judges you for what you do or don’t do. When you truly believe in yourself you have released the negative side of your ego, the side that tells you that you have to be bigger or faster than your friend a the gym. The side of the ego that say “holy Cow… your coworker just out worked you by two hours”. You have to release the negativity and  Love yourself where you are at to get to where you are going. 

Slowly get all negativity out of your life. Remember negativity attracts more negativity, while in the same token positivity attracts positivity. I’ll take some more happiness coming this way please…:)

All I mean by this is that thoughts become things. If you tell yourself you will never be good at something, you will never be good at this something. 

If you are honest with yourself and say “I may be learning, but I am patient and I am going to be the best (insert anything you want accomplish) ever! Say it everyday…feel it…own it. Nice!

It’s your time…slowly integrate these changes into your life…and improve your quality of life with every breath…:)
